The Daytona State Library offers a number of services specifically for faculty and staff including: library skills instruction for students and web research training for staff, research assignment design consultation, media and equipment booking, course reserves, and professional research services. We also encourage input from faculty and staff in areas such as collection development and continuous quality improvement for library services. Below are listed some of the more popular services as well as contact information. For general questions about library resources and services you can always call the Research Assistance Desk at 386.506.3518.

Library Skills Instruction and Web Research Training

Daytona State Librarians offer a full range of Library Skills Instruction from developmental classes to upper division Bachelor's program courses. Workshops can be tailored to specific projects or themes. We also provide Web Research Training to staff and can prepare presentations to meet specific departmental needs.  Most workshops take approximately 50 minutes and for large classes we will be happy to come to your classroom. Please book workshops at least one week in advance by filling out our instruction request form. Hunter Murphy, our Reference and Instruction Librarian is responsible for scheduling most instructional session. She may be reached at Hunter Murphy. For Deland/Deltona workshops, please call 386.785.2017.

InfoGuide Development Request

Interested in having an InfoGuide created for your class, event, or topic? Fill out the DSC InfoGuides Development Request form.  These InfoGuides can serve as excellent starting points for students, staff, and faculty who are unsure of where to start with their research.  Many DSC departments have requested the development of a new discipline or course specific guide to help their students locate more quality resources for their academic assignments.

  • Part-Time Faculty InfoGuide - Are you Adjunct Faculty at Daytona State College? Then try using our Adjunct Support InfoGuide, which is meant to help adjunct faculty navigate to the many important resources available to our faculty and staff.

  • Tech Help & Resources - Need a refresher on commonly used technology at DSC? Try clicking through the many tutorials on this guide. Created for students, staff, and faculty at Daytona State College, this guide offers documentation and video tutorials, which walk users through navigating DSC digital resources, Office 365, Falcon Mail, and more! If you want hands-on help, look for workshops offered before the beginning of each semester.

Research Assignment Design Consultation

Let us help you design research assignments that take maximum advantage of the resources available to your students. The Daytona State Librarians are available for consultation by phone or appointment. We can check resources, create specialized help guides and resource lists, and even provide customized instruction for your students. Call or e-mail Kelly Larson for details on how we can help at 386.506.3623 or Kelly Larson.

Media Reservations

Faculty and staff may request DVDs to be used in their classrooms or they may put these materials on reserve in the library for use by their students. DVD holdings can be searched by using the online catalog. Search the DSC library's online catalog to find library holdings. The catalog also indexes other media such as streaming video and audio materials. To reserve materials call 386.506.3055 for assistance. (For Deland Campus Library call 386.785.2017)

Course Reserves and Textbooks

Faculty can place materials on reserve at the Daytona and DeLand Campus Libraries by reviewing the Reserves page and completing the online form. Course reserves may be checked out from the Circulation Desk. Reserves may be used in the library and photocopied. The library does not carry circulating copies of current textbooks. Faculty are encouraged to place HIGH DEMAND text books on reserve for their courses, especially if they are in short supply.

Research Services

The Librarians at Daytona State are happy to assist you with your research needs in areas such as course and curriculum development, classroom support materials, program accreditation preparation, and grant support research. We can also support you in your personal degree programs and with your publishing projects. Please call the Reference Desk at 386.506.3518 or email Kelly Larson for more information.

Collection Development

The library relies heavily upon the subject expertise of our faculty to keep our collections as up to date and relevant to your students as possible. We welcome any recommendations for materials to add to our collections, both book and media. It is also just as important to remove old and outdated materials from our collection and we highly encourage faculty to "weed" those areas of the collection pertinent to their disciplines. You can e-mail recommendations to Christina.Hastie@daytonastate.edu. or call 386.506.3593 to find out more about how you can keep our resources working for you.

Continuous Quality Improvement

The Daytona State Library Services Department believes very highly in continuous quality improvement and welcomes any suggestions, recommendations, or concerns that will help us improve our services and resources. The Library Advisory Committee is a committee made up of faculty representatives from each department that helps us do just that. If you would like to become involved with this committee or meet individually with your ideas, we would like to talk to you. Please call AJ Delgado, Library Director at 386.506.3440 or e-mail aj.delgado@daytonastate.edu.

Laptops for Part-Time Faculty

Laptops are available in the library for adjunct faculty checkout with the approval of their department chair. Laptops can be checked out for a semester. Discuss the need with your department chair. The department chair has access to a dynamic form needed to start the approval and checkout process. Follow this link for full instructions.
