Writing Center Services
The Writing Center offers a variety of resources for our student community, both face-to-face and online. Our operating hours include virtual appointments, live chat for quick questions, and faculty option embedded Writing Center resources.
The Writing Center’s website provides information pertaining to the Center, including the hours and contact information. The site also makes our workshops and handouts readily accessible to students, alumni, faculty, and staff. Our InfoGuides cover a broad range of topics, including steps in the writing process, best practices to avoid plagiarism, and helpful citation resources for APA, MLA, and Chicago styles.

One-On-One Tutoring
- Virtual or in-person sessions are 45 minutes and can be scheduled up to 3 times per week. Virtual appointments are conducted using screen sharing via Office365 Microsoft Teams, where the student and Writing Specialist can easily and efficiently communicate. We also offer asynchronous appointments for students with more schedule restrictions. Student who have one session can increase their overall grade by 14%.
Course Embedding
- A Writing Specialist or tutor can be embedded into any Falcon Online course, no matter the discipline, to assist students with writing, communication, and digital literacy. Having an embedded specialist provides easy and direct contact to the Writing Center's services. The data on this service shows that students are more likely to engage with the Writing Center services because of their embedded specialist.
Workshops
- Writing Specialists will work with faculty to create specialized content for their classes. Virtual or in-classroom workshops can be delivered synchronously or asynchronously with an accompanying Q&A session. Our Specialists are dedicated to ensuring the community of a classroom is respected and they are eager to adapt to the professor's and classroom's needs.
Peer Review
- Writing Specialists are ready and able to join your class and co-facilitate peer review sessions with your students. Do you need some ideas on how to host an effective peer review session? Do you want another pair of eyes to look over student's work? Do you want to integrate AI into the process but need some guidance? We've got you covered. Ask us for more information about the resources we have for successful peer reviews!
ESOL Support
- The demand for serving Daytona State College's ESOL community has increased, and the Writing Center has responded. The Writing Center now hosts three ESOL-centered workshops a week called "Conversation Circles" and "Reading Circles." Test Prep
- The Writing Center offers individual 45-minute appointments for students seeking help with any test prep that includes reading, writing, or language and communication skills. Whether it's for the GKT, TEAS, PERT, TABE, or FCLE, students may schedule up to three appointments each week dedicated to this study.
