Test Prep Sessions

Test Prep Sessions

The Writing Center offers one-on-one, 45-minute appointments for students seeking help with test prep in the ATI TEAS Reading and English sections and the FTCE GKT Essay and Reading sections. Students may schedule up to three appointments each week. Students' individual strengths and weaknesses are examined and a study plan is devised. Since sessions are tailored to the individual needs of the learner, they may cover multiple content areas in one session.

What can you expect in a test prep session?

  • TEAS Reading and English and GKT Reading: Students can expect to work one-on-one with a tutor to evaluate what areas the student could focus on improving. A unique plan will then be developed for the student to approach these improvements in on-going sessions with the Writing Center.

  • GKT Essay: Students may complete a practice essay session by scheduling an appointment with the Writing Center. Students will be given a sample prompt in a test-like environment. Following their timed writing session, they can schedule a follow-up appointment with the Writing Center to discuss their essay.

How can you schedule a test prep session?

  • Appointments can be scheduled through our live chat, by emailing CWC@DaytonaState.edu, or calling 386.506.3297 during open business hours.

ATI TEAS

  • TEAS is an acronym for the Test of Essential Academic Skills.
  • ATI is the name of the test maker, Academic Technologies Institute.
  • Programs in the health science field, such as nursing and radiography, require TEAS test scores for program admission.
  • The TEAS tests students in four main content areas: Reading, English and Language Usage, Mathematics, and Science.

TEAS Test Preparation Workshops:

Content specific workshops in Reading, English and language usage, Mathematics, and Science are offered 3-4 times yearly to coincide with deadlines for the nursing and radiography programs. Each workshop is created and facilitated by content-area experts from the DSC Academic Support Center or Writing Center. Students must register in advance, as there is a high demand for these workshops, and they reach capacity quickly.

Virtual TEAS Workshops: These workshops consist of preparatory review materials in video or screen cast format (links are listed below) and a live virtual Q&A session for each section of the exam. Please make sure to review all preparatory materials and come to the Q&A session with your questions.   Virtual Preparatory Review Materials
