SlideShare Best Practices

Guidelines put in place by SlideShare.net will be upheld by DSC Academic Support Services SlideShare presentations (http://www.slideshare.net/terms).

  • Post presentations that you use for workshops – students can refer back to them outside of class.
  • Remember that you are not there to present, so use a balance of text and visual material. Provide a transcript for your presentations to meet ADA compliance. For more information about ADA, visit the http://www.ada.gov/ site.
  • Embed SlideShare presentations in html websites.  When embedding in a DSC library site, use the Bootstrap responsive embed code.
  • Keep track of analytics to see how many people are viewing and downloading presentations.
  • Staff taking pictures of Academic Support Services students will obtain verbal confirmation, at the minimum, to post photos at the minimum to various social media. Ideally, students will sign the “DSC Talent Release” form.
  • Due to copyright laws, only fair use and public domain images will be published to the DSC Academic Support Services Slideshare pages. When using sites like Google Images, conduct an advanced search and select the “free to use or share” usage rights. Give credit to images from sites like Flickr that provide specific creators. To find public use images, search sites such as the links below.
