Generative AI

Student Integrity and Authorship

How to write with integrity and protect authorship

  • Consult your syllabi for individual course expectations regarding generative AI use.
  • Make an appointment with the College Writing Center to strategize your writing process, increase your confidence, and/or review your drafts before submission.
  • Disable any extensions in your word processor, browser, etc. that may go against a syllabus policy on generative AI. (i.e. Grammarly, spell check, Google AIs, etc.)
  • Enable track changes in your documents.
  • Save all drafts, outlines, notes, reading annotations, etc. used in your writing process.
  • Arrange a meeting with your instructor to address any concerns with authorship. Your meeting can happen before or after your final submission.
  • Submit drafts before the deadline and consult your Turnitin.com originality report (if it is visible) before your final submission.
  • If there are questions about your ethical use of generative artificial intelligence, ask your instructor for a copy of the Turnitin.com A.I. report.
