Databases

DSC Library has over 80 databases that you may access to find full text articles. Below are just a few databases that will help jumpstart your search.

  • Academic Search Complete - The world's most valuable and comprehensive scholarly, multi-disciplinary full-text database, with more than 5,300 full-text periodicals, including 4,400 peer-reviewed journals. See the tutorial here

  • Academic OneFile - Upgrade to General OneFile provides peer-reviewed, full-text articles from leading journals and reference sources. Includes coverage of the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and, other subjects. Locate the database tutorial here

  • America's News - U.S. news content from local, regional, and national sources, this resource is the largest of its kind. Includes coverage of the Daytona Beach News Journal and the Orlando Sentinel. See the tutorial here

  • Access World News Research Collection - More than 9,000 media sources, including Florida news coverage. Find current, diverse global perspectives on topics related to controversial issues, the environment, health, education, science, the arts, literature, business, economics, criminal justice, and more.   • AtoZ World Food - With thousands of global recipes, hundreds of fascinating culture and ingredient articles, and essential culinary resources, AtoZ World Food brings international cuisines. See the tutorial here

  • Biography in Context - Journal articles and periodicals on people from around the world. The tutorial is here

  • Business Source Complete - Business Source Complete is the world's definitive scholarly business database, providing the ultimate collection of bibliographic and full text content. Find the tutorial here

  • CINAHL Complete - Indexing for 1,835 journals from the fields of nursing and allied health. The database contains more than 1,000,000 records dating back to 1982. Offering complete coverage of English-language nursing journals and publications from the National League for Nursing and the American Nurses Association. See the tutorial here.

  • Consumer Reports - Provides detail reports and articles on products and industries. Tutorial can be found here.

  • CQ Researcher Plus Archive - Explores a single topical issue each week, ranging from social and teen issues to environment, health, education, and science. Contains the complete archive of Editorial Research Reports, dating back to 1923 which includes over 3,000 in-depth reports. Check out the tutorial here

  • Criminal Justice - Covers a wide variety of criminal justice topics, including corrections administration, law enforcement, social work, industrial security, drug rehabilitation, and criminal and family law. Full-text and image coverage for about 50 journals. See tutorial here.

  • DemographicsNow - is a comprehensive web-based solution offering up-to-date resources on demographics and extensive market level information. Gale created four tutorials to show all the unique tools of the database.

  • eBook Collection - eBook and audiobook content via the popular EBSCOhost interface. See the tutorial here

  • Education Source - Full text of articles from over 350 journals as far back as 1996. Locate the tutorial here

  • Films on Demand - Streaming video from large and small production companies covering a wide range of subjects to enhance college courses. A tutorial for this database can be found here.

  • Flipster - is a next-generation digital magazine database that makes it easy for you to read popular magazines on your computer or mobile device. A tutorial can be found here

  • Florida Newspapers - Research newspapers throughout Florida, including the Daytona Beach News-Journal. See the tutorial here.

  • Health and Nursing - This database allows users to search CINAHL, Health Source Consumer and Nursing, Medline, and PsycARTICLES all in one. A tutorial for this database can be found here

  • Health and Wellness Resource Center - Easy-to-use interface with access to full-text nursing and allied health journals, encyclopedias and other reference sources, as well as informational pamphlets. Also includes the Alternative Health suite of resources. See the tutorial here.

  • History Reference Center - Offers full text from more than 750 history reference books and encyclopedias, and cover-to-cover full text from nearly 60 history magazines. Contains 58,000 historical documents; 43,000 biographies of historical figures; more than 12,000 historical photos and maps; and 87 hours of historical film and video. See the tutorial here

  • Humanities Source - Over 500 English-language periodicals covering literature and language, history, philosophy, archaeology, classical studies, folklore, gender studies, performing arts, history, religion and theology. See the tutorial here.

  • JSTOR - Access back issues of journals in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Find the tutorial here

  • MEDLINE with Full Text - Full text for 1,200 journals with coverage dating back to 1965. Authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, health care system. Tutorial can be found here

  • Military and Government Collection - Designed to offer current news and information to all branches of the military, with a thorough collection of military titles, trade publications and newsweeklies. Includes cover-to-cover full text for nearly 350 titles. See tutorial here.

  • New York Times - Current - Provides national and international news, opinion and commentary; published in a national and a New York metropolitan edition. Watch the tutorial here

  • New York Times - Historical - Full-text and full-image articles for The New York Times, covering the period from 1851-2007. The NYT Historical database tutorial can be found here

  • Opposing Viewpoints in Context - Contextual information and opinions on hundreds of today's social issues. Includes updated viewpoint articles, topic overviews, full-text magazines, academic journals, news articles, primary source documents, statistics, images, videos, audio files and links to vetted websites organized into a user-friendly portal experience.   • Ovid Nursing Collection -  Provides convenient access to over 50 of today's leading titles in nursing. See the tutorial here.

  • Oxford Research Encyclopedia -  Oxford University Press has invested in the Oxford Research Encyclopedias to meet this challenge. Working with international communities of scholars across all fields of study, we are developing new comprehensive collections of in-depth, peer-reviewed summaries on an ever-growing range of topics.   • PrepSTEP for Colleges - LearningExpress Library provides a completely interactive online learning platform of practice tests and tutorial course series designed to help patrons, students, and adult learners succeed on the academic or licensing tests. See the tutorial here.

  • ProQuest All Subscribed Content - Large aggregated full-text database totaling more than 11,250 titles with over 8,400 titles in full text. It allows for all ProQuest databases to be searched at once. See the tutorial here

  • PsycArticles - Provides full-text, peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific articles in psychology. It contains more than 100,000 articles from 59 journals - 48 published by the American Psychological Association (APA) and 11 from allied organizations. It includes all journal articles, letters to the editor, and errata from each journal. Coverage spans 1894 to present. See the tutorial here.

  • Sage Journals - SAGE is the world’s 5th largest journals publisher. Our portfolio includes more than 645 journals spanning the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science, Technology, and Medicine, and more than 280 are published on behalf of 225 learned societies and institutions.   • Salem Health - Salem Health brings online access to Salem Press’ award-winning health reference works. The database covers diseases, disorders, treatments, procedures, specialties, anatomy, biology, and issues in an A-Z format, with sidebars addressing recent developments in medicine and concise information boxes for all diseases and disorders.   • Salem History - Online access to Salem Press award-winning, historical reference. Check out the tutorial here

  • Springer eJournal Collection - SpringerLink provides full text access in a variety of topics, including mathematics, economics, ecology, religion, history and more. See the tutorial here

  • Virtual Reference Library - Offers more than 85 reference sources including encyclopedias, series and more, allowing libraries to provide respected authoritative essays on varied topics from numerous subject areas. See the tutorial here

  • World Book Online Academic - World Book Online contains every article from the 22-volume print set. See the tutorial here.
