Hilton Smith recommends the GED program at Daytona State College

GED Underage Requirements

Underage Requirements for Students 16-17yrs in Volusia County for Daytona State College’s GED Program:

You will need to withdraw from public school if Volusia County is where you attend to enroll in Daytona State College’s GED prep program.
After attending classes, career exploration activities and passing the 4 official practice tests, a waiver will be granted to sign up for the GED test.
Depending on placement testing in math and reading, it could take anywhere from a month to a year to be granted an underage waiver, which wouldn't be needed once they turn 18.

  • Apply to Daytona State college at the nearest campus or online at https://www.daytonastate.edu/become-a-student/ged.html
  • After receiving a college ID number, you’ll also need sign the underage GED consent form at Admissions and turn-in withdrawal paperwork.
  • Next, you’ll take the program placement test AE-CASAS. Students are given 3 hours to complete the reading and math (calculator allowed) tests on a computer. Testing is in-person and walk-ins are allowed 8am to 5pm Mon-Fri. NSB and Flagler campuses are more limited with times/days and will need to be contacted. A photo ID is required.
  • After testing, a student will receive a schedule and a payment of the $30 tuition needs to be paid. Students will pay $30 each semester they need to attend.

Our program is considered part-time in case you require full-time. Underage students are required to attend face-to-face classes. We offer them AM and PM at both Deltona and Daytona Beach campuses. AM is available at Deland and NSB campuses.

Our GED preparation program at Daytona State follows the college schedule for semester and term start dates.
