Pedagogy Meets Innovation

It is time to highlight the achievements of two faculty members here at Daytona State College who were recently honored with awards for their exceptional contributions in online and hybrid instruction!

Professor Lesley Nadal emerged as the recipient of the 2023-24 Award for Excellence in Online Instruction. Her commitment to creating an inclusive and engaging virtual classroom sets an excellent standard for courses where learners are not routinely met in a face-to-face environment.

On the hybrid front, professor Brad Moody designed dynamic learning experiences that stand out, rightfully deserving him of the 2023-24 Award for Excellence in Hybrid Instruction. The intersection of visual appeal, clarity in communication, and fluidity in going from the online to in-person classroom is unmatched.

Without further ado, let us delve into the noteworthy aspects that define the excellence of this year's winners...

2023-24 Award for Excellence in Online Instruction

Lesley Nadal
  • ESOL Issues and Strategies I TSL3080
  • Faculty fellow for Spring 2022
  • Created a clear module structure with well designed HTML template pages, incorporated high impact engagement practice using H5P and created a fully accessible course with contextual URLs. She developed rubrics in Falcon Online to make her criteria clear, and embedded writing center live chat on her Falcon Online homepage; each fit the specific needs of her pedagogy.

Brad Moody
  • Fundamentals of Interactive Media | DIG2500
  • Using his stellar designer skills, Brad created eye-catching banners throughout his course, including using the virtual tab of contents that help his students quickly navigate to the next Content section right from the homepage. His welcome widget quickly introduces himself, the course subject matter, and how as a hybrid course this class will operate differently than a fully face-to-face class. The assignments are well developed and use rubrics with clear criteria. There is no textbook cost for the learner, using open educational resources in alignment with the state's textbook affordability initiative.

Once again, congratulations to our winners of the Awards for Excellence in Instruction. We can't wait to recognize two more faculty members next year!
