Our Experiences as Faculty Fellows

So long... farewell... Well, almost. We have enjoyed being your 2023-2024 Faculty Fellows, and we can’t believe our time is coming to an end! Keep reading to hear about the best parts of our experience.

Aryn: My favorite part of the faculty fellowship was collaborating with peer faculty. From Snack and Share events to one-on-one meetings, learning and growing alongside my peers is the highlight of my time in this role. I have had many memorable interactions and challenging conversations during this fellowship, and I’m constantly awed by our faculty’s enthusiasm and passion for pedagogical best practices. We are so lucky to be immersed in a culture that values continuous development and life-long learning, which sets the example for and increases the likelihood of student success. I’m honored to have served as one of the Faculty Fellows in Teaching and Learning, and I highly encourage anyone who is interested to apply for the next academic year.

Check out the photos below of your peer faculty engaging in some of the Snack & Share events:

Pat: The teaching and learning faculty fellowship provided valuable opportunities and resources to advance my knowledge and skills in pedagogy. I’ve learned effective teaching strategies, assessment techniques, and methods for fostering student engagement and success. I’ve been able to share these strategies with other faculty members on campus at our Snack and Share events. I feel I was able to help enhance faculty members' teaching effectiveness, promote student-centered learning, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement in higher education. Also, we were able to share our thoughts, opinions, and visions on various teaching techniques in blog posts. For example, I’ve learned to create various discussion forums online so students have an opportunity to ask questions on each week’s topics, questions about the syllabus or course, form study groups, share resources, and other discussions that could help students succeed in school. Here’s an example of a discussion post, I’ve created for students to ask questions for each week’s topic. This was covered in several topics in ACUE’s material including “Planning Effective Online Discussions”, “Checking for Students Understanding in Online Learning”, and “Set and Meet Expectations for Timely Online Feedback”.

After implementing a few ACUE teaching practices, I’ve seen a positive difference in my classes. I look forward to implementing more of these practices in my future courses. After this semester, I will have completed the ACUE Effective Online Teaching Practices and Effective Teaching Practices certification. This certification will enhance my career and contribute to the ongoing improvement of teaching and learning in higher education.
