Re-Introducing the Substantive Interaction Log!

by Jasmine Checchi on 2022-01-14T07:54:00-05:00 | 0 Comments

Initial Introductions

For those of you who may be new to the substantive interaction log, this tool was created and piloted by the School of Humanities and Communication faculty. It is intended to help faculty plan and track weekly interactions with students. Furthermore, it creates a simple and quick way to provide transparency between faculty and their chairperson when reviewing substantive interaction.

This substantive interaction log is designed as an HTML template you can add to your Falcon Online course shells so you can enter quicklinks to areas of your course where you are providing substantive interaction, such as Announcements, Assignments, Discussions, etc. As with any webpage file you create and save in Falcon Online, open the menu and select "Edit HTML" to add or edit information as needed.

New & Improved

The first iteration of this tool in Falcon Online resides in the Learning Object Repository (LOR), still searchable under Dr. Donna Mixon and available for copy. An easier method to locate and use this substantive interaction log in your course is now live - an HTML template!

Follow these few steps below to add it to your course today (but remember to keep it hidden from students!)
  1. From a module in Content, click the Upload/Create button.
  2. Create a File.
  3. Add a title and click the checkbox below the title to "Hide from Users."
  4. In the drop-down menu next to the title box, select Substantive Interaction Record.
  5. Save and Close.

Questions?

We are happy to guide you through the process of setting up the substantive interaction log in your course as well as demonstrate where feedback and interaction can take place. For specific questions regarding your substantive interaction, we encourage you to connect with your chairperson. As always, please make sure you're subscribed to ensure you are up-to-date with the latest tips and tricks from the FIC!
