Online Training Stipends
show me the money meme

Now that
some of you have completed your Online Faculty Training series, there have been questions as to what happens once your courses have been completed; in other words, when will you receive your stipend? The following is what the payment process looks like, which will hopefully clear up any questions or concerns you may have.

Creating the Stipend

Once your training completion has been confirmed, I will generate an Authorization Agreement for Supplemental Pay which requires several signatures before your stipend is ready for disbursement. Cheryl Kohen, Director of Online Studies, will sign the form initially and forward it to the faculty member, i.e. you, via interoffice mail or email.

Signature Process

After your signature, you will forward the form to your department chair who will then send the form for the remaining signatures. Note: If you are an adjunct and can’t make it to campus, Cheryl will send the form to you electronically, which you will then sign, scan and forward to your department chair.

Required Signatures

Chair/Supervisor - The chair you report to.

Subfund Manager - Cheryl Kohen, Director of Online Studies.

Associate Vice President – Who your chair reports to.

Provost/Vice President – Dr. Amy Locklear.

Human Resources - Department.

Accounting - Department.

President – Dr. Tom LoBasso.

Employee - You!

  •

Once all the required signatures are received, the form is sent to Payroll for processing. Payment is direct deposit.

quality matters logoLet's Get Registered for QM!

Faculty who teach online classes are currently going through our Online Faculty Training series (click to see previous blog about this initiative). This 45 hour, fully online, paid series, includes workshops that are mostly developed in-house; however, the only outside workshop is a 20-hour component through Quality Matters - Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR). This nationally recognized training provides an overview of the course design rubric process and teaches best practices for assuring quality and alignment in online course shells.

We recently added the QM training to our Upcoming Events page on the Faculty Innovation Center's website. If you're ready to register, please click here and choose a primary and secondary choice of session. (Note: Currently QM has workshops listed through March. More will be added through the summer semester). Friendly reminder, we don't have control over due dates, and the course must be completed within the two week time period. You'll see a $200 cost associated with this training. No worries. The workshop registration and required print QM rubric are all being paid for through the Division of Online Studies' sub fund. You will not be charged for taking this training.

This workshop is time intensive, but is also extremely valuable for all online faculty. Completing the APPQMR training has always been a requirement for faculty who became peer reviewers, and we're so grateful that we can now provide this nationally recognized training for all faculty who teach online.

Emails from Pam

If you're online faculty and you've checked your email in the last couple of days, you have received an email from me updating you on the status of your Online Faculty Training courses. The Division of Online Studies is working diligently to make sure our records are up-to-date and as accurate as possible - and we need you to help us do that!

If you see something that is incorrect, i.e. you're marked as having not completed a training that you think you have, please let us know! Between computer system changes, server issues and just plain human error, not all of our records may accurately reflect your training completions. There may be instances of incomplete coursework you may not have been aware of; therefore, a completion has not been given. In those cases, I will have the course facilitator contact you directly to assist you in completing that particular training.

If you have any questions regarding your training courses, ask away; that's what we're here for! I've had a number of faculty apologize for asking "too many" questions. Nothing to be sorry for! The more you ask, the more accurate our records will be.

Here are a few commonly asked questions:

1. When is the training due?

All training coursework is due by December 30, 2018 for Online Bachelors faculty and by June 30, 2019 for all other online faculty.

2. Is there a specific order I should be taking the courses?

With the exception of the D2L and FTS series, you're welcome to take the courses in any order you see fit. Note: that while not required, it may be beneficial to complete the UDL course before QM.

3. How long do I have to complete each course?

While there is a general idea of how long the courses will take, you are welcome to go through them at your leisure with the exception of the Quality Matters Rubric course. This course is administered by QM and has very specific course dates to register for. Once the course begins, you will have two weeks to complete it.

4. How long will each training course take?

The estimated times of how long each course will take are as follows:

  • D2L 101 (3 hrs)
  • D2L 102 (6 hrs)
  • Substantive Interaction (3 hrs)
  • FTS 101 (3 hrs)
  • FTS 102 (2 hrs)
  • UDL (7 hrs)
  • LOR (1 hr)
  • QM (20 hrs)

5. I have completed a course, but your records don't reflect that.

Don't panic! The facilitator may still be grading your work. Once you've completed your course assignments, they will make sure all assignments are done correctly. Once this has been done, you will receive an email stating that the course is completed - and I will too! If it has been a few days and you still haven't received a completion email, please call the FIC, and I will look into it for you.
