The DSC Library is starting a new blog series entitled, What We Are Reading, which hopefully will give you a little more information about what we are reading and allow you to get to know your DSC Librarians better.
I recently finished The Indispensable Academic Librarian: Teaching and Collaborating for Change by Michelle Reale. Ms. Reale is the Access Services and Outreach Librarian at Arcadia University near Philadelphia, PA. She has written three books on librarianship and has a passion for libraries and learning that comes out in her writing.
Ms. Reale has a great understanding of students and teachers alike. She makes some interesting and well thought out points about the benefits of journaling. We experience a large number of events every day and trying to recall one particular event in great detail from weeks or months ago can be difficult. By journaling after an instruction session or class, we can maintain more detailed records and possibly over time see patterns that we my have missed if we relied solely on our memory. If you are thinking of going into teaching or librarianship this book is for you!
