You may not realize it, but when you enter the library, you are entering the second building built on the Daytona State College (at that time Daytona Beach Junior College) campus.  Built in the early 1960s, Building 2 housed not only the library but several of the administrative offices for the college.  It was named the Mary Karl Library (eventually changed to the Mary Karl Memorial Learning Resources Center) in honor of Mary Brennan Karl who was the driving force behind creating the Mary Karl Vocational School which later merged with and became the technical education division of DBJC.  In the 1980s what was now building 2 was remodeled and joined to a new classroom building which is now Nunamann Hall (Building 200).  This odd architectural joining expanded the floor space of the library dramatically but also has lead to decades of student confusion since you can only access the second floor of Numamann Hall by going through the library and there is no access to the third floor from the second floor!  "You can't get there from here!"  is a phrase that is often heard the first few weeks of the semester.  Over the years, the library has housed a number of different departments and services including serving as the first home of the television station WCEU (now WDSC), the first faculty computer lab, and the first open computer lab for students.
