Protecting Yourself, Prevention and Treatment

The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person:

  • Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
  • Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

Symptoms range from mild to serious and include fever, cough and difficulty breathing. If you are experiencing a fever, cough and/or difficulty breathing, contact a healthcare professional to determine whether testing or treatment is needed.

Here are some tips from the CDC to reduce your chances of becoming ill:

  • Wash your hands frequently to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including the Coronavirus.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue away.
  • Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces.
  • If you are experiencing a fever, cough and/or difficulty breathing, contact a healthcare professional to determine whether testing or treatment is needed.
